Abstract

Web Services enables complex, peer-based networks that are
decentralized, heterogeneous, and dynamically changing. However,
tradition network firewalls don't provide the application-level protection
necessary to secure the Web Services environment because Web
Services have been designed to tunnel through them.

What is the solution for this Web Services Security problem? Network
Security SIG will have a free seminar to discuss it.

Dr. Matthew Fuchs
Senior Architect, Westbridge

Matthew Fuchs is a senior architect at Westbridge Technologies, a

Company specializing in Web Services security and access control.  Before

Westbridge, he was Chief Scientist for XML Technologies at Commerce

One, where he spearheaded a number of innovations, such as the first Object

Oriented language for XML and the first system to transform XML definitions

into programming language constructs - now one of the most widespread

approaches to handling XML.  The exchange of markup-encoded documents

(such as XML and SGML before that) among systems on the Internet has been a

focus of his work since '93.  He was a charter member of the XML SIG at W3C

and has been a member of the XML Schema WG since inception.  Dr. Fuchs has

written numerous papers on XML, has several patents related to XML

electronic commerce and processing, and has spoken about these topics on numerous occasions.  He received his PhD from NYU in '95.
