NATEA History and Mission

North America Taiwanese Engineers' Association (NATEA) was founded by a group of Taiwanese American engineers and scientists on March 2, 1991 in Silicon Valley, CA, USA. Its vision is to promote technological knowledge and its applications, and to provide professional development for Taiwanese Americans and community at large. NATEA is a non-profit organization and serves its members and their communities by sponsoring a variety of activities such as workshops, seminars, special interest groups, and social meetings. All the events are open to the general public. Two years ago, NATEA also began to offer scholarships to needy students in the Silicon Valley high schools.

NATEA Headquarters (NATEA-HQ) is located in Silicon Valley, California. Presently it has ten regional chapters. They are Silicon Valley (NATEA-SV), Southern California (NATEA-SC), Saint Louis (NATEA-STL), Greater New York City (NATEA-GNY), Ottawa, Canada (NATEA-Ottawa), Greater Chicago Area (NATEA-Illinois), Austin (NATEA-Austin), Dallas (NATEA-Dallas), Taiwan Chapter (NATEA-TW) and the most recently formed Seattle Chapter (NATEA-Seattle). Presently, NATEA consists of more than 1200 general members and 24 corporate sponsors. In addition, there are NATEA Representatives in Washington, Houston, Vancouver, Canada and Toronto, Canada to promote NATEA activities. Most of the members serve in critical technical and managerial positions in various businesses in Silicon Valley, and other cities across North America and Taiwan. Noticeably, many NATEA members are founders of some of the most successful companies in the high-tech and general technological industries.

NATEA Mission

  • To facilitate technology development, entrepreneurship and job opportunities, and to provide management training opportunity for its members.
  • To serve as bridge between Taiwan.s job opening and US talents, and between Taiwan.s Venture Capitals and US entrepreneurs.
  • To support research and development in Taiwan and thereby enhance Taiwanese technological global positions.
  • To promote the practical applications, of scientific and engineering know-how.
  • To establish relationships between NATEA and other main stream and Asian scientific or engineering organizations.
  • To further the fellowships among NATEA members.
  • To increase the community awareness of the achievement of Taiwanese American engineers and scientists
  • To encourage and provide assistance to Taiwanese American youth to pursue scientific or engineering careers.
